Activities

Enjoy a network of grass and surfaced paths throughout – observe sculptures and stone walls as you enjoy relaxing walks through varied habitats with extensive views. A multi-use path offers a 2km permissive link through the park for walkers, runners, horse riders and cyclists.

The site is linked to the villages of Thornton and Bagworth by the circular 100 mile walk around Leicestershire – the Leicestershire Round.

Nature and Wildlife

Less than a mile south of Bagworth, towards Merry Lees and Desford, this 75 hectare (185 acre) country park has been transformed from scarred industrial landscape of Desford Colliery into a valuable recreational resource of woodland, grassland, heathland, lakes and ponds. Discover an abundance of wildlife and enjoy bird spotting throughout the rich habitats, including lakes and ponds where an eco-friendly sand martin nesting wall can be found.
