Leicestershire County Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This accessibility statement applies to the Leicestershire Country Parks website: leicscountryparks.org.uk
This website is run by the communications team at Leicestershire County Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. The text should be clear and simple to understand.
You should be able to:

- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
- navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
- use most of the website using a screen reader
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the ‘non-compliances’ listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- Some elements don’t have sufficient colour contrast which can make them difficult to read for users with low vision, for example the background colour of the main search in relation to its border and surrounding. This fails WCAG 2.1 AA 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast
- Some forms fields don’t automatically detect and auto-populate information to make filling in forms easier, such as the email field on the Share by email form. This fails WCAG 2.1 AA 1.3.5 Identify the purpose of fields programmatically
- The are links to anchors that don’t exist within the points of interest pop-ups on the country park pages. This fails WCAG 2.0 A 2.4.1
- Our cookie banner sometimes overlaps content behind it, if left as is, without selecting an option presented. Users are advised to select the appropriate cookie settings so that the banner disappears. If not, this fails WCAG 2.2 AA 2.4.11 Ensure focus is not fully obscured.
We are working with our developer and plan to fix these issues by 31 March 2025.
Disproportionate burden
Some issues are beyond our control, such as:
- It’s not possible for us to make sure some interactive components are spaced correctly (for the non-essential links, bottom right-hand side of the Open Street maps) as these are provided by a third party. This fails WCAG 2.2 AA 2.5.8 Ensure interactive components are far enough apart
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 10 October 2024.
This website was last tested on 4 October 2024. We did our own testing using the Silktide Accessibility Checker. We also conducted manual testing exercises such as navigating using a keyboard and different zoom settings and screen sizes, and using the Silktide screenreader.
We tested a number of pages that included a wide range of functionality, including images and alt text, links (including button and card links), maps, menus, online forms, search, filters and downloadable PDFs.
